Needle Felting

Wow cannot believe how long it has been since I posted on my blog!

Anyways here are a couple of photos of birthday presents I have made .  One is a trivet for my boss/friend Kelly (chicken is using a cookie cutter and felting the roving in it) and the other is a felted bowl for my sweet niece Quinn.  I crocheted the bases first  with a roving wool from Bernat (I think) then needle felted the wool roving into the base till I liked it.

They were pleased with their handmade gifts so that is important right?  I am going to go to a Stitch and Bitch get together today at our local wool shop and check it out.  I would like to find some other felters I can play with here in town. I do have a class booked the end of March using wet felting to make a vessel, like a bowl or a vase.  So looking forward to that!

Sure feels like spring here in the valley hope you are getting better weather too.  Winter 2014 has been a rough one for many of you.  Take care and I will try to post more often the remainder of the year.

Needle Felting Day 6 goose

There is a wonderful 12 Days of Christmas gift exchange through the Byhand Artists group on Yahoo that I just love to participate in.  This year I chose Day 6 which is  "Six Geese a Laying" as you know.  Our fearless leader Suzanne at quietfire design   http://www.quietfiredesign.ca/   has a wonderful stamp set for the 12 days of Christmas in lovely calligraphy.  I needle felted my geese using a cookie cutter to felt it in and then used Suzanne's stamp when I got the felt smooth as needed for the rubber stamp to work well.  I used Stazon ink to do it.  I am very pleased how they all turned out.  Now to finish my last two felted gifts for family members. They are getting trivets, one has a gingerbread man on it, super sweet, and I will post photos of them later tomorrow.
   Two more sleeps!

miniatures, doll bashing

I bashed these dolls many years ago but thought I would share them with those of you who follow me.  My Miniature club had a challenge a few years ago of making a parade to display at our show and sale that year.  My float was for the wineries that are abundant in the valley and bashed a Sailor Moon doll to look like Lucy Stomping grapes! Are you old enough to remember that episode ? And then used an Arnold doll and made him a new face and viola.... a clown that looks like the clown in " It" ( by Stephen King).  I love them both and need to find an interesting way to display them.  Thanks for stopping by for a look and apologies that the photo is not that clear.  Should get a new camera maybe?  ; )

12 days of christmas started

Long time between posts again, lovely hot summer and holidays and laziness are my excuses.  I did get some felting done for my 12 days of Christmas exchange with Byhand Artist Group (I am Day 6) and a couple of other felted items started but not near finished.   It is a gloomy Friday and I hope to work on something today and drink some hot chocolate and do some Netflix watching maybe too.  It feels like it is really Fall today

Thanks for stopping by !!

needle felting

Where do the weeks go?  Busy working and company and being lazy have kept me from doing much of anything these days.  But thought I would pop in and let you see "a little silhouette of a man" that I am needle felting .  He will be added to a wool painting that I hope to one day finish ; )

The base of this piece of art is abstract and felted. I hope to use some mixed media on it as it evolves.  Want to use more rubber stamping and some copper, and other embellishments.  I think I may do some small bird silhouettes as well.  Now just need to take my little piece of artwork to the lake and sit in the shade and play!!

Hope you are having  a wonderful summer.

miniature show

Yesterday was the Kelowna Miniature show and sale. Very enjoyable but like most shows it is getting smaller.  Great Vendors though. The Kelowna club and mine from the South Okanagan always have displays . That is my favourite part of the day, looking at all the talented people's art work.

It was good to see old friends again and although I did not buy much this year I left happy.  My trusty camera did not take very many photos that turned out so .....  I may try to take my project's photo again someday with the glass removed. But here they are .

The cacti are preserved with glycerine and water and I was pleased with how they turned out and will do more of them for my SW scene that I have been working on for years.  The second photo is of the club challenge to include a tree in a roombox setting.  The back wall and the "grass" is all needle felted  which was fun to work with.  You can read about it in my previous post.

       Thanks for stopping by.

Today would have been Ruby's 87th birthday,

          Rest in Peace dear one.

What did I do all winter? I needle felted!

Wow  not so good at blogging these days am I?  I have been busy though, not with house work but with needle felting.

The first photo is of a trivet I have been making.  I used a cookie cutter to add the white chicken and tried to hard felt it enough with the needle to be able to  rubber stamp on it.  I used StazOn ink and now I will see how long it will last .  I am pleased with the result but may in the future felt it more ?  Not sure.  I was also going to use some beads but decided the rubber stamping is enough. I will most definitely use the rubber stamping on the felt in the future, in fact I am plotting the next project as I write.

The second photo is to be a tree trunk for my miniature display at the show the end of April in west Kelowna.  My mini club was challenged to use a "tree" in a room box display this year. What I said?  So I thought about what I wanted a long time and this needle felted tree trunk is going to be the back of my Scene, which will be a fairy theme scene for now.  I found the perfect fat quarter of fabric at the local quilt store that looked like bark.  I put a piece of pre felt behind it and proceeded to needle felt where ever I wanted to and I was so pleased with the results.  I was worried that the cotton fabric would not hold up but it did.  Now to embellish it with more moss and  roots and spider web or too and it will be able to be added to the room box and I can work on the rest of the scene.  I work in one inch scale generally but this will be a mixed scale room box as the little fairy that I have is very very tiny and the bed that I have is one inch but this tree trunk will be full scale.  I will post a photo when I get it close to finished.  Only 27 days left to finish it off!!  Yikes!!

So my winter was full of experiments and happily they worked.  Trying hard to step out of my comfort zone and try new techniques.  Thanks for visiting and leave a comment so I know you stopped by.
