miniature show

Yesterday was the Kelowna Miniature show and sale. Very enjoyable but like most shows it is getting smaller.  Great Vendors though. The Kelowna club and mine from the South Okanagan always have displays . That is my favourite part of the day, looking at all the talented people's art work.

It was good to see old friends again and although I did not buy much this year I left happy.  My trusty camera did not take very many photos that turned out so .....  I may try to take my project's photo again someday with the glass removed. But here they are .

The cacti are preserved with glycerine and water and I was pleased with how they turned out and will do more of them for my SW scene that I have been working on for years.  The second photo is of the club challenge to include a tree in a roombox setting.  The back wall and the "grass" is all needle felted  which was fun to work with.  You can read about it in my previous post.

       Thanks for stopping by.

Today would have been Ruby's 87th birthday,

          Rest in Peace dear one.

What did I do all winter? I needle felted!

Wow  not so good at blogging these days am I?  I have been busy though, not with house work but with needle felting.

The first photo is of a trivet I have been making.  I used a cookie cutter to add the white chicken and tried to hard felt it enough with the needle to be able to  rubber stamp on it.  I used StazOn ink and now I will see how long it will last .  I am pleased with the result but may in the future felt it more ?  Not sure.  I was also going to use some beads but decided the rubber stamping is enough. I will most definitely use the rubber stamping on the felt in the future, in fact I am plotting the next project as I write.

The second photo is to be a tree trunk for my miniature display at the show the end of April in west Kelowna.  My mini club was challenged to use a "tree" in a room box display this year. What I said?  So I thought about what I wanted a long time and this needle felted tree trunk is going to be the back of my Scene, which will be a fairy theme scene for now.  I found the perfect fat quarter of fabric at the local quilt store that looked like bark.  I put a piece of pre felt behind it and proceeded to needle felt where ever I wanted to and I was so pleased with the results.  I was worried that the cotton fabric would not hold up but it did.  Now to embellish it with more moss and  roots and spider web or too and it will be able to be added to the room box and I can work on the rest of the scene.  I work in one inch scale generally but this will be a mixed scale room box as the little fairy that I have is very very tiny and the bed that I have is one inch but this tree trunk will be full scale.  I will post a photo when I get it close to finished.  Only 27 days left to finish it off!!  Yikes!!

So my winter was full of experiments and happily they worked.  Trying hard to step out of my comfort zone and try new techniques.  Thanks for visiting and leave a comment so I know you stopped by.

Felted Tea Cozy

I made this tea cozy for a friend in November for her birthday, actually was my summer project.  I forgot to take a photo of it so had to have her do it for me. The Colour  is way out of my comfort zone but I was very please with it after all was said and done.  It took Ann a few days to wonder why I did it that colour as it does go well with her new kitchen after all.  ; ) Now I want to make one for my little tea pot.  Maybe lime green for me, or grey with  red poppies on it .  Learning to step outside my comfort zone baby steps at a time and taking my friends with me too ; )

Happy January 4th

miniatures

Happy New Year!!  I hope that 2013 is full of hope and peace and love for you all.

I thought I would post pictures of some of the miniatures that I gave for Christmas and a couple of pictures of what I got .  My old camera does not take the best photos but hope you can see some of the little gifts.  I have learned that I am not good with close ups of some of the tiny ornaments so you will just have to take my word that they are wonderful. Top two photos are things I gave to a friend, the southwest fabric is in blue and also in brown and I think that both of us will have fun with this fabric, third photo is what she gave me  and christmas tree and a few ornaments from another club member.  The fourth photos is from our club gift exchange. Isn't it a lovely ornament?  She also enclose the little house as well.  It will find a home in a gift store I am working on (thinking about) ; )

I love it when people know your hobbies and find the perfect gift.  I know I watch all year for little things for my miniature friends at Christmas or for their birthday.  They do not care that the fabric has been shared with me, at least I do not think that they do.

So here is to a new year of finishing off UFOs and enjoying the miniature community online and at our clubs.

    Thanks for looking   J

Felted Soaps

The last couple of days I have been getting some last minute gifts made.  This year I have decided to make felted soaps .  Very easy to do and hopefully will be a welcome gift?  I experimented on myself first and one out of the two I made for myself was a success, hopefully I have learned lessons from the failed soap. I have spent a long time investigating how to do this the right way that is for sure.   I would really like to needle felt a design on the soap too.  That will have to wait till the New Year.

Hope that you have a Merry Christmas and a creative New Year!!

Felted Napkin Rings

I have been busy the last month needle felting away.  Here are the gifts I have made for my friends at work this year .  Needle felted napkin rings.  I hope they like them as I do.  Thought I would share the photos with you.  I am also felting some soap too and will share those photos when I am finished with them all.  I am trying to learn to take photos of my gifts to people before I give them away.  Lots of time  spent on them and I may want to do them again for myself.
   All most Christmas !!

Miniature Lavender plant

I finally got a photo of the lavender plant I have made.  It is in 1"=1' scale.  I should have put a penny in the photo I know.  I am pleased with it and although this one is a gift I will make more for sure.  The problem was finding the Lycopodium.  Thanks to Maureen who sent me some from her stash.  I also got a bit from Ruell.  I took the cloth covering off of some floral wire and used Alcohol ink to dye the wire.  I then dipped the end of the wire in white glue and dipped it into a mixture of flocking and real life lavender that I ground in a pepper mill.  Thank you everyone for your help.
